Researchers say that cervical cancer is more serious in northern Nigeria because of the high number of births, according to the wife of the governor of Kebbi state in Nigeria.
Despite the lack of cancer treatment centers in Nigeria, some research shows that the number of cancer patients in the country is increasing every year, which is a serious threat especially to women.
Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu, the head of the MedicAid Foundation, which researches and provides support to patients with the disease in Nigeria, told the BBC that cervical cancer affects women more in the north, while breast cancer affects women more in the south. Nigeria.
She said their research shows that more than two hundred thousand people are diagnosed with cancer in Nigeria every year.
She called on women in the north of the country to adopt birth control as a preventive measure.
“Multiple births increase the risk of cancer, the family should be organized and have a break,” said Dr Bagudu who is an expert in the field of child health care, especially premature babies.
Cancer is a disease that is difficult to deal with and expensive to treat, and Dr Zainab said that the confusion surrounding cancer attracted her attention to establish a foundation to fight the disease.
On the 26th of October, she will lead a one million person march in Abuja about cancer which the foundation she founded for over 12 years conducts every year.
