Dr Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, wife of Kebbi State Governor, on Monday pledged to sponsor 40 girls to study nursing towards increasing the number of nurses in the state.
She stated this at a launch organised for students of the College of Nursing, Birnin Kebbi, in Government House, Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the launch was specifically organised by the governor’s wife in honour of the nursing students.
The first lady said the gesture was meant to increase the number of female nurses in the state so that female patient would feel at ease being attended to by female folk.
She enjoined them to be good ambassadors of the state wherever they might find themselves.
The governor’s wife advised the nurses to bear in mind that their profession is a service to humanity.
She prayed to God Almighty to bless, guide and protect them beyond their imagination.
In her remarks, the Dean, Students’ Affairs of the college, Halima Umar-Holi, commended Gov. Atiku Bagudu and his wife, Zainab, for developing education in the state.
